Bellafill Injections at Pura Vida MedSpa

Bellafill is an innovative dermal filler that doesn’t require the frequent upkeep associated with traditional hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers. FDA-approved to be safe and effective for up to 5 years, Bellafill smooths wrinkles and restores lost volume below the skin to rejuvenate your appearance. It can also be used to reduce the appearance of certain types of acne scars.

How it works

The collagen gel in the Bellafill solution provides an immediate boost to the volume of the treated skin. Depending on the injection site, this can improve facial contour and definition, smooth wrinkles and acne scars, or mask the subcutaneous blood vessels that cause dark under eye circles to appear.

Over time, the collagen gel will dissolve and be absorbed by the body – however, the PMMA microspheres will remain intact. These microspheres stimulate collagen production on a long-term basis, helping to sustain the treatment’s results.

Are You a Good Candidate for Bellafill Injections?

Bellafill is ideal for anyone seeking a long-term solution to widespread acne scarring and common signs of aging.

To be a good candidate for a Bellafill procedure, you must:

  • Be 21 years of age or older
  • Be a nonsmoker
  • Not be prone to keloid scarring
  • Not have a bleeding disorder

The best way to find out if you’re a good candidate for Bellafill is to schedule a consultation.

What Can You Treat with Bellafill Injections?

Bellafill is FDA-approved for treating two cosmetic concerns.

Smile lines

Bellafill adds volume to and smooths nasolabial folds – the lines between your nose and mouth that can age your appearance. Bellafill is FDA-approved to last for 5 years for this purpose.

Acne scars

Bellafill can improve the appearance of moderate-to-severe atrophic (depressed) acne scarring on the cheeks; it is FDA-approved to last for up to 1 year for this purpose.

What to Expect During Your Bellafill Treatment

A Bellafill treatment is a quick, pain-free process. First, your medical provider will apply a topical numbing cream. Then, they’ll perform the injections – first on one side of your face, then the other. You’ll instantly see a visible reduction in your nasolabial folds or acne scars.

Bellafill requires no downtime; you can immediately continue with your regular schedule. You may experience minor redness, swelling and discomfort in the treated area, however, these symptoms typically resolve on their own within 1 week.

Because Bellafill is so long-lasting, smile line patients only need touch-ups after 5 years. For acne scarring, it’s approved to last for up to 12 months, although many people enjoy smoother skin for years.

Complementary Treatments

In our practice at the greater Fulton, MD, and Baltimore Area, we complement Bellafill treatments with several other services. These are designed to target various skin issues, offering a comprehensive approach to enhancing your skin’s health and appearance.

  • Neurotoxins: These are injectable treatments such as Botox and Dysport that work by temporarily paralyzing specific facial muscles. This helps to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines that Bellafill may not address, offering a more comprehensive approach to age-related skin changes.
  • Sciton BBL: BroadBand Light (BBL) therapy uses intense pulsed light to address pigmentation issues like sun damage, age spots, and redness. Used alongside Bellafill, it can provide an overall improvement in skin tone and texture.

By integrating these treatments with Bellafill, you can achieve comprehensive and personalized skincare solutions. Book your consultation today at our Fulton, MD location.

Alternatives to Bellafill

If you’re not sure Bellafill is right for you, we also offer RHA Fillers, an HA filler designed for use around the nose and mouth. Many first-time filler patients opt for RHA Fillers, as it lasts for 6–18 months and can be dissolved if they are not satisfied with the effects.

While you enjoy your RHA results, you’ll have plenty of time to decide if you want to commit to the longer-term solution that Bellafill can provide.

How Much Do Bellafill Injections Cost?

The cost of your Bellafill injections is determined by how many units are needed to achieve the look you want. For more details about our pricing, please get in touch with us at (301) 604-8432.

Bellafill FAQ

How do I know if Bellafill is right for me?

Most patients have an excellent response to Bellafill. However, if you have a history of severe allergies, have a known allergy to bovine collagen or to lidocaine, have a bleeding disorder or scar easily, inform your medical provider before undergoing Bellafill.

If you aren’t sure of these limitations, rest assured that you are in good hands; all patients undergo a skin test and rigorous health questionnaire before we perform this procedure.

Is polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) safe?

PMMA is a biocompatible material that has been safely used in implants and devices for more than 65 years. While its use as a dermal filler is more recent, it has been well-established for this purpose.

Does Bellafill have any side effects?

Many patients experience temporary side effects such as redness, swelling, bumps, lumps, pain or itchiness at the injection sites. These symptoms typically clear up within 1 to 7 days.

If you are still experiencing side effects 1 week after your appointment, or have a fever or other signs of infection, call us.

How long has Bellafill been available in the US?

Bellafill was approved to treat smile lines in 2006 (under the name ArteFill) and for acne scars in 2014.
