Botox & Other Neurotoxins

Neurotoxin

Neurotoxins can be incredibly transformative when in the hands of a certified expert. They can erase your wrinkles with minimal disruption to your day-to-day life. Unlike other anti-aging procedures on the market, Botox and other neurotoxins interfere with the nerve signals that cause muscles to contract and cause wrinkles to become minimized.

Using Botox and other neurotoxins continues to be one of the most popular plastic surgery treatments in America, and for a good reason. Using neurotoxins can help to improve the look of fine lines, crow’s feet, forehead wrinkles, and the dreaded 11 lines between each eyebrow. It can also be used to balance facial symmetry.

Not only does using Botox and its derivatives have cosmetic uses, but it can also be used for things like treating migraines, teeth grinding and excessive sweating. This process can be done fairly easily in a center by trained doctors, has quick results and takes minimum time to recover.

What Is Botox?

Neurotoxins: What We offer, How They Work, How Long They Last, & More

Botox is a brand name for Botulinum toxin type A, a type of neurotoxin which when used in small, carefully researched doses, can treat moderate to severe facial lines and wrinkles. The neurotoxin blocks nerve signals to underlying muscles, paralyzing the muscles, and stopping repetitive facial expressions that create wrinkles on the face and neck.

Botox Treatment Areas

Botox is commonly used to treat frown lines (between the eyebrows), forehead lines, wrinkles around the eyes (crow’s feet), and chin wrinkles. Here are some of the areas Botox can help improve the appearance of.

Upper face

Glabella lines, better known as frown lines, are those vertical creases that appear between the eyebrows. They tend to leave a person looking tired or angry, but Botox can help smooth those frown lines and offer a more relaxed look.

Forehead lines will become more apparent as you age and are a normal occurrence in your late 20s and early 30s. This area is best tackled when you start to see them because the longer you wait, the more difficult it will be to achieve your desired results. Deep horizontal forehead lines can be caused by sun damage and smoking, but anti-aging injectables can improve the effect if not completely remove them.

Bunny lines are creases that appear at the top of the nose when it wrinkles up. Botox injections at either side of the nose can reduce the look of these lines. These anti-aging injectables must be done by an experienced professional to ensure your smile is not negatively affected.

Eye area

Crow’s feet appear at the outer corners of the eyes all the time, even when you are not smiling. With careful assessment by experts, anti-aging injectables in this area can help alleviate drooping eyelids and improve crow’s feet for wide-eyes and a youthful experience.

Botox and other neurotoxins can smooth fine creases underneath the eyes. This is a careful procedure that should only be undergone by a professional clinic like ours, as these muscles partially control your lower eyelids.

Lower face

The fine lines around the mouth are also known as lipstick lines and are a sign of aging. Neurotoxins can improve these lines as well as transform a smile.

As we get older, our chin muscles become overactive. This means they flex more often than they should, creating an unwelcome puckered and dimpled look. Sun exposure, tissue loss, bone loss and gum recession can also make the skin in this area appear slimmer and unattractive. Botox and other neurotoxins can smooth and reduce the overall dimpled effect due to relaxing the muscles.

Neurotoxins like Botox can be used to smooth the neck, an obvious sign of aging. This procedure is known as the Nefertiti lift and is effective at relaxing both horizontal and vertical lines in the area. Horizontal lines commonly occur with age and can be treated with injectables. Vertical, rope-like, protrusions on the neck are common among people who exercise a lot. Sometimes known as turkey neck, anti-aging neurotoxin injections can help improve the look of the neck area.

Other uses

Prolonged periods of grinding your teeth and clenching your jaw, known as bruxism, can cause earache, worn teeth and headaches. Botox and neurotoxins injected into the jaw can help relax muscles and effectively treat bruxism or jaw clenching.

Botox can be used as a preventative treatment to help treat chronic migraines. Rather than stop your migraines once they’ve started, these injectable treatments aim to reduce the number of days you suffer from migraines and help improve your day-to-day life.

You may be a candidate for Botox if your sweating doesn’t improve with the use of prescription antiperspirants. This procedure has even been FDA-approved for people who sweat excessively from their armpits, as well as other areas like face, feet, and hands.

Neurotoxin Brands We Offer

Just like Hoover, Band-Aids and Kleenex have become part of our everyday language, Botox is a colloquial term for a neurotoxin. It isn’t the only anti-aging injection around, there are other FDA approved treatments that address the same aesthetic concerns.

Botox

Botox injections are the most popular non-surgical cosmetic treatment in the world! Botox is generally used to treat frown lines, forehead lines, crow’s feet, and chin wrinkles.

Dysport

Dysport is mainly used in the treatment of glabellar lines – also known as frown lines, the vertical lines between your eyebrows. Dysport has a tendency to spread, which can look more natural when applied to the right places.

Daxxify

Daxxify is unique because it is the only botulinum toxin formulation that uses a novel peptide as a stabilizer, and does not contain human or animal byproducts. It can also provide wrinkle improvements for up to 6 months, on average – longer than competing brands. However, it is only FDA approved to smooth frown lines, whereas Botox, for instance, is also approved to treat other parts of the face, such as the crow’s-feet and forehead.

What to expect during your Botox treatment

Your face will be cleaned, and Botox will be injected into muscles in your desired area using a very fine needle. You may need injections in different locations, but it will depend on the area being treated. We may also ask you to move the muscles in your face so we can find the place to insert the injections.

The whole process will usually only take about 10 minutes. You will start to see results in about 2 to 3 working days, but it will take 2 to 3 weeks for the full effect to appear. Avoid massaging or rubbing the area for the first 3 days. You should also avoid vigorous exercise, sunbathing, using a sunbed or a sauna for the first 2 days.

Before and Afters

Your age, your skin type and your genetics will impact what to expect when getting Botox or other neurotoxins. Botox won’t totally eliminate wrinkles, but it will work to minimize the appearance by calming the nerves that contract muscles. Our experienced and trained team will precisely place the right amount of Botox to help improve the signs of aging.

It takes some time for Botox to take effect after it has been injected into the skin. Some patients will see an improvement straight away, especially when treating fine lines. Most patients will start to notice winkles becoming diminished within a couple of days, though it might take longer to achieve the full result.

The treated area will appear smoother and look more refreshed within a week. Areas may appear lifted and your complexion much clearer. You may find people complimenting that you look fresher and well-rested. Good Botox should not look too obvious, but you may notice less mobility, especially if you get forehead Botox.

Cost

The average cost of a Botox procedure in your local area is roughly around $250 to $500 per area of treatment. The price will vary depending on the treatment area and your desired results. The cost of Botox will vary and are determined per unit injected.

Botox FAQ

Are Botox injections safe?

Botox injections are safe when performed by an experienced doctor and clinic like Pura Vida Medspa & Cosmetic Laser Center. Possible side effects and complications may include mild pain, swelling or bruising at the injection site, as well as headache or flu-like symptoms.

How can I prepare for a Botox session?

It is vital you don’t consume alcohol at least 24 hours before your Botox session, as this can thin blood and increase the likelihood of bruising. For this reason, you should also avoid medications that are blood thinning or anti-inflammatory.

Avoid shaving, waxing, or undergoing laser treatments on the area that will receive the injection. Also avoid products with anti-aging ingredients like retinol, glycolic acid and alpha hydroxy acid. We also recommend you get a good night’s sleep and eat well on the day of the procedure.

How long do the results of Botox injections last?

Unfortunately, Botox does not last forever. The effects of Botox and other neurotoxins usually last for about 3 or 4 months. It is also common for first timers to notice that their Botox doesn’t last as long, but the effects may last longer after the second treatment.

How often will I need to get Botox?

If you have Botox injections again, you should wait at least 3 months. It might stop working if you have it too often.

At what age should I start getting Botox?

If you want to stop the earliest fine lines from turning into deep wrinkles, preventative Botox in your mid to late 20s and early 30s can help. Botox is approved for patients who are 18 years of age or older.
